Well, I can now report that there is NO way to get out of a 1970 Vette in a kilt with any dignity at all. But I did have a distinct and vivid memory of a couple of gals from my youth trying to exit a similar car in a skirt!
I finally got the VTR and the new plate, actually registering an antique is quite affordable
Tax $6
Registration $53.50 (one time, ever!)
Fees $15
That first drive PRICELESS

civil servant - another classic oxymoron.

This one kills me. I am somewhere around the fifth owner of one of my Barracudas and Pennsylvania still makes their sales tax each time it gets sold.

Here in Virginia, every vehicle requires an annual state inspection. However most any auto repair shop or full service gas station has state certified inspectors. Anyhow, congratulations on finding the "Vette" and if you don't mind me asking where did you finally find what you were searching for?

You can exit from a 2001 in a kilt with a little dignity, but it does take some practice. When you get in you have to hold the keys in your teeth, that way you have enough hands to maintain your dignity. Sometimes it takes a little while to find the seat belt buckle under eight yards of 16 oz scottish wool.

Kokomo In. I am far better educated now than when I started, and I will be happy to assist you if you are looking for something. Here's what I bought.

Ah, the 70's Vettes. I remember working in a gas station in the early 1980s, and having to change plug wires on one of those. We pushed the car into the service bay to keep from heating the exhaust manifolds. Then we cursed the parts guy who sent us a plug wire set for a run-of-the-mill Chevy engine--the wires weren't long enough to get through that chrome shielding beside the distributor then down under the manifolds and back up to the plugs.
Cool-looking ride, but unless I had the money to pay someone with smaller hands and arms than mine to change the wires, I'll stick with cars that are easier to maintain.
Lovin' the breeze 'tween m'knees!

All I can say is WOW! That is one good looking Vette, it is in pristine condition and has obviously been very well taken care of. You did very well. It looks like a show winner. You are going to enjoy this one.
After seeing the the pictures of the engine bay, I know you are going to drive this car only on dry, sunshiny days.
