Boots?

I wear Medieval Moccasins with my belted plaids. They do carry a high top version. With my tailored kits I wear hiking shoes regularly.

Oh wow. I just checked out this site. They have some of the most beautiful footwear I've ever seen. I have a pair of military paratrooper dress boots that I like to wear sometimes. I think they look semi-dress, as they're patent leather.

I wear a pair of black plain boots when wearing the kilt casually. Our football fans wear boots with the socks rolled down to the matches.

There are a lot of people doing that now a days. As I posted before, I like to wear the low lace up boots, black or brown, or hiking boots. I usually do that with scrunchy hose. Kind of the big hooved klydesdale horse look, te he.

Welcome to the forum, graham_s, hope you enjoy posting and reading. I don't do much formaling, but I don't like to wear wingtip type shoes so I just go with round toe dress shoes. I kind of like my tweed shoes, but that is all my own personal tastes for myself.
I'm guessing you don't doo the scrunched down hose with your boots...

I tend to wear a sgian dbu with my kilt so the scrunched down socks wouldn't work for me. besides I have a nice set of matching flashes.

In addition to being a piper, I am also a representative for my clan association at highland games. When I do the latter and not the former, I prefer to wear hiking boots with my kilt. Frankly, I think the ghillie brogues are an odd sort of shoe, but I reluctantly wear them for piping cometitions and formal kilt occasions. Don't get me started on those super-formal patent leather "Mary Janes".

I also wear a pair of Medieval Moccasins for Ren Fest. In the Texas Spring, Summer, and Fall heat, it's quite common for the kilted to wear sandals (no hose). Others wear sneakers, even.

Sounds good to me. I do tend to wear sandals with my kilts a lot. I like those sandals that strap around the ankle, but what ever goes with what I'm wearing. I do have a pare of dress slides or sandals that I have even worn with hose... There closed toe slides with no back around the heel of your foot, and have openings along the sides. That's kind of hard to explain, but everybody thoght it looked ok.
I'll also add that I don't really always fit in to most of the way these guys wear their kilts. I'm usually quite casually dressed.

I don't know for sure about the history, but I find when I wear my belted plaid that nice ankle length mocs are great. Especially with my hand knit Elizabethan hose.
