My in laws are in Ohio, so I am at least tangentially interested in the answer about gatherings myself. Something to do to get away for a few minutes, um hours...

from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
I have been a long distance motorcycle rider for years now, so much so that it's time for a new bike. Years ago I spent every other weekend riding through your fine state, mind you I lived in Toronto at the time, so I guess that qualifies as long distance, rode to Washington DC and Daytona on my own from Toronto as well.
I'm sure your wife will get used to it give her time to adjust and it will be OK.
