best thing to do is find a local weaving instructor or shop and have them give it the once over they should be able to give you a list of items needed and a few instructions as you go...I just finished my first tartan and I also only have a 22" loom, it is not wide enough with my set up to do a proper tartan width so we are looking to widen it. just be careful it is a very addictive habit.

I'll take some snapshots and post them in the AM whilst getting the wee-uns ready for school.

this is the tartan I just finished scanned in, it was made with 3/2 cotton which is really too heavy, but it beats tight and since it was for a fly plaid it was OK heavy.

this is the loom warped. I don't use lease sticks for the yarn separation I actually use the cardboard from drafting vellum. It was all I could afford when I started.

    That is some beautiful work.

I'm not even certain how to set up the warp on this thing. Anyone have pointers?

    Photos, as promised:

Looking at the working end. You can see the most obvious missing piece here:

Right side view. You can see there's 4 pedals. They all work smoothly.

    Logo shot:

    Looking down at the backside:

Another, more encompassing, front view. Note the 4 pedals again.

good find. your reed will depend on your thread size anyhow. so go talk to your supplier and they should have a stock of reed in different sizes to meet your needs.

I found this book as a good source:
"The Key to Weaving- A Textbook of Handweaving for the Beginning Weaver" by Mary E. Black
