Topp Mac has a good suggestion there. I would definitely advise against a "cheap" PC since the thing should last you for many years (assuming you don't wear one more than most people do). The look is everything, so hold out for a pretty good one or buy a really good tail coat and pay a good tailor to fix it for you. The tailoring is relatively easy (for a tailor!), so the only realy expense will probably be buying silver buttons.

Or, go on ebay and find a good one like I did. I think I paid about $240 or so.

I chose the conversion route. The website referred to here, www.myowntuxedo.com has limited sizes. I went to ebay stores and got a great tailcoat and three button vest from the Tuxxman (also check out Monkeysuits and Tuxedos by Mike Dante for a wide selection). I bought pewter diamond thistle buttons from www.noonesbusiness.com, they also sell cuff links and studs (others talk about www.threefeatherspewter.com). A local tailor helped assemble the coat from pics and instructions from this site. The finished product cost about $200 and here it is:

Well, folks- thanks for the advice. I'm not going to have the money for a PC jacket AND a tank before the wedding I'm attending, so I think I'm just going to go with the kilt and a nice black vest.

Beware of tuxedos made for use as rentals. They are really bad quality tuxedos. I had to wear one for my daughters wedding (she picked out) and I felt I was in something that Wa****t rejected. I felt embarrassed to wear it. Cheap can't be fixed easily or inexpensively.
