Kilted in the snow down south

Well, it looks as though the forecasters really blew it! The GREAT BLIZZARD of '08 immediately simmered down here north of Atlanta after the first few flakes. Cold tonight, but apparently the moisture missed us. But, in going to the grocery I found a convert who has now contacted me by email for the purchase of his first kilt via a personal delivery! At least that will be ONE other local around these parts to join us.

NO snow here this week, but it's right cold out. Wool hose are in order.

I've seen that same rush in Washington DC, Viriginia, and Maryland. People fighting over the last loaves of bread.

It was great to see something from Lake Lure, one of the most beautiful spots on earth. I used to live atop the mountain there on Sidney Lanier Road, where I wrote my first four books. Remember some winters lokking down the mountain over an ice covered wonderland. Have you ever seen what I caklled the old fort that is back in the woods near the top of Sidney Lanier. There is a VERY old roadbed made of huge hand hewn granite blocks and what appears to have been some kind of a gun emplacement up on the mountain. I doubt that anyone other than myself even know it's there. Has to be pre civil war era.

It is 15 outside and the breeze is blowing. Snow still lies on the ground. I'm thinking of taking a walk in my tank as soon as the sun comes up!

Creativeaccents, your fort may have been part of the Confederate defense of Asheville. Gen. Stoneman raided Western NC (after Lee surrendered; news traveled slow) and was repulsed trying to get to Asheville from Black Mtn and so detoured to Rutherfordton to come up the Hickory Nut Gorge Gap which was less well defended. There are lots of other stories that might account for it too, but that's for another thread.

Give me a call if you come up our way again. Kilts are not unusual in these parts; even our Mayor is kilted!

Ah yes, Snow in Atlanta and all it brings with it. My loving wife sent me a picture of the snow on our back patio this evening. I think it was a cruel joke.... It is 90's here in Hyderabad and I will be coming home in two weeks..... I think I am about to freeze! Might be a good reason to put on the HEAVY weight kilts and sit by a fire.

Splash, It is 16 degrees outside here in Cartersville today, but no snow. Atlanta escaped this time, but, for myself, too cold to be out in the kilt. You need to let us all know when you are heading back so that we can all get together to reaquaint you with southern food!
