    thanks for the pics! That's a....reeeeeeeeally....wide pattern between the orange vertical stripes. I see now why they pleated it to sett and not stripe.

    My preference is to pleat to sett; although, I have 2 of my 6 kilts pleated to the stripe.

    Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but pleating to the strip is probably more beneficial as the tartan maintains it's (sett - for lack of a better term) appearance in the front, so you have the best of both worlds.

    True, but some people just don't like the fact that a kilt pleated to the stripe looks very different fore and aft.

    I was told by several pipers that pleating to stripe is the regimental way. IOW, the military wear thier's pleated to stripe, except for those that box-pleat. For my clan kilts, I prefer pleating to sett because the sett is what is identified with the clan.
