Yes, I know the St. Andrews P&R quite well. Ever since it opened, I have visited every year as I have been coming to NYC regularly for 12 years. The bartenders wear the kilt and the waitresses are very pretty. The bartenders are very good about giving you a break on the price when you try enough of the single-malts. The food is excellent, too. The trout is really good.
Hamish is right. The bar is very friendly. The Scots (i.e., those visiting from the Auld Countrie) seem to know to show up all the time. I learned how the Glaswegians do. They deride you all evening with cutting, comic insults, then they say goodnight like you're their brother and will never see you again.
I'll let you guys know when I will be there.

Is there a Kilt night in NYC? Brian Wilton and I have designed a new tartan for the Family name Downs. I had my Kilt made by one of the greatest Kilt makers I know, Matthew Newsome.
He is a true artist.
I am trying to get the word out to other people with the last name Downs.

You should head down to the Newark Holiday Inn on Feb 16 for the Metro Cup bagpipe competition. Some of the best pipers in the world from Scotland, US, and Canada will be there. And yes, they sell beer.

Hmmm...Piper's Cove isn't that far from the Holiday Inn in Newark.
Hmmm...might be interesting if a bunch of us show up unannounced before our Scotland Yard pub crawl.

St. Patrick's Day
I march with Co.Down on St. Patrick's Day. Would some of you like to march?

Since it looks like we'll be celebrating St. Pat's the day before, it sounds like fun and a first for me. Let's keep in touch about this.

And this shall be for music, when no one else is near; The fine song for singing, the rare song to hear; That only I remember, that only you admire; Of the broad road that stretches and the roadside fire. (RL Stevenson)

It sounds like a hell of a day is shaping up for Feb. 16th! I'm in, particularly if we are going to do both Kearny for shopping and Newark fer tha' pipes!

If the missus isn't working on the 16th then i think I will make the trek to NJ. Can it be done by train as I don't relish driving back to Long Island after a pub crawl?
