Strange, in some parts of Scotland we are still using tin cans connected with a piece of string. We don't have television (again, a Scottish invention) nor have we heard of Coca Cola. Believe me, we still get asked this when we travel.

I recall us getting our first telephone growing up in England. I was about 8 (I'm 42 now). I recall there being a 5 digit number which shows just how few phones the were in Britain at the time...

Today Is An Interantional Clan MacMillan Holiday (calls may be cheaper after 5PM)

Let's see... what other Clan Holidays could we MacMillan's come up with?
    Invention of the Bicycle Day,
    Encyclopedia Britannica Day,
SuperMac Day (the Prime Minister, not the hamberger),
Don't Slurp Your Soup Day (where everyone eats Baxter's Royal Game soup),
and The MacMillan Nurses Day to remind us all of the tireless good works these ladies perform everyday.

I think I'll send them a cheque. Today.

Yes you are right Grant it was Gardiner Greene Hubbard, father-in-law and financial backer of Alexander Graham Bell and first president of the Bell Telephone Company.

I was thinking of Bell's daughter marrying Gilbert H. Grosvenor who Bell appointed as Editor of National Geographic and who then oversaw the rise and expansion of the magazine. The editorship is still in the hands of the Grosvenor family today.
