If you have time to shop around and want something to wear later, by all means buy it. If it will be for only the one ocassin, it would make more sense ot rent it.

As to which jacket to wear, that depends on how formal you want to dress and at what time of day. The kilted equivalent of a business suit jacket is an argyle jacket. If you get one in black it could also be worn on more formal ocassions. A Prince Charlie, or PC, is more formal and is worn at black tie and white tie events. The best thing to do I think would be to ask the groom for guidance.

Waterford is pretty close to The Highland Fling shop...caution...addiction pending upon your first visit (even just looking at all of the stuff is fun!)!

P.S. I used to teach in White Lake...very close to Waterford!

Be very careful, the congregation will have your cards maxed out in a month with more stuff than you ever dreamed you need.

What ever do you mean? All you need are at least three belt buckles and sporrans for each jacket, and you know you're going to need at least three of those. You can, of course, get by with only five pairs of hose, but ten is better. And then you need some…

Go for the rental they will sort you out at the shop just let them know what it's for. I rented a P.C. outfit once for my brother's wedding the one thing I had to purchase was the hose as for sanitary reasons the shop I dealt with, (and I would hope most others) would not rent hose.

Ah yes, Waterford. I used to race bicycles at the Waterford "speedway"!

Ok, one caution. If you wear a kilt you will discover the power of the kilt. Be forwarned, if you wear a rental, you will want one for yourself. So, you might as well invest in a kilt and rent the rest of the outfit.

I'd second that, if you don't know if you would ever wear the kilt again, then it can be a big investment. However, a rental for a "test run" of kilt wearing and for the actual wedding might be the less expensive way to go. Keep checking in here for lots of advice.
