Yup, I have swatches of each at the museum. I just added a section to the museum's gift shop page where you can order kilt jackets, as well.

Just a side question...what is everyones' take on tweed kilts in the summer? I really love the idea of owning a tweed kilt but I definitely wear my kilts much more often from late spring to early autumn. Can I get away with tweed in the summer when I usually wear a short sleeve tee, polo or safari shirt?

OOH! Good question, Chef. I'll ask too!

    How 'bout it Matt?

(Not that I can afford it right now, but I'll start saving my pennies...)

    By the Yard: $75.00

Cloth can also be purchased by the yard. Our current offerings are 54" wide.

I'm not sure how I missed that
I guess I was too busy looking at the swatches.

    Thanks for pointing it out.

McMurdo beat me to it, but yes, yard goods can be purchased, from the same page on the museum gift shop site I linked to above:
    http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/harris_tweed.html

Regarding wearing tweed in the summer, while it's far too warm for me to wear my Harris Tweed jacket here in NC in the summer months, I do frequently wear my tweed kilts in the summer time, with a polo shirt, or short-sleeved button shirt.

The hand of the cloth makes them feel a bit warmer than my worsted wool kilts, so I don't typically choose to wear my tweed kilts if it is going to be an unusually hot day, or if I'm going to be spending a lot of time outdoors in the sun. But just for general summer time wear, when I'm indoors at the museum most of the day, I give my tweed kilts about as much wear time as my worsted wool tartans.
