While TheScot is not as large as some of us, there are some pictures of him in this thread of a recent Great SEKS kilt night wearing a Gordon WPG kilt.

I had to seek out WPG to see what everyone was talking about. Now I want one! Dang it!

    Does anyone know?
I ordered a 40" waist, and requested a 24" or less length (I didn't look for the thread, but I recall reading another WPG kilt review that led me to believe that all the lengths are actually 1/2 shorter than the nominal size): my kilt measures 23.5" from top to bottom. Depending on where I have it hit my knee (just above kneecap or middle of kneecap), the top edge of the kilt is at bottom rib level or just below (about 1" higher than my navel). As to the hips, mine measure 44", and the kilt seems to fit well. I haven't measured the kilt though to know for sure that it is a 40/44/24. Isn't it a rule of thumb that the hips are about 4" bigger than the waist? I wonder if this is true for most kilts produced in a size run.

As others have noted, the weight of the wool is really heavy and "blanket-like". I'm pretty sure that a 38" wouldn't have worked for me, but my 40" has to have the upper straps on the tightest setting to let me feel like it's going to not slip down too often throughout the day.

Remember this is a 'military' reproduction kilt and military kilts tend to have a very high rise (above the navel) which makes the overall length longer without changing where it hits your knee.

beloitpiper, I have a Black Watch from WPG. The buckles are cheaper, but should hold up to many years of wear. Also, you wear this kilt higher on the waist, so the length should be longer. All in all, I am most pleased with mine, and I think you will be, too. In the 22 oz weight, the pleats should last through a nuclear holocaust, which is the bright side of such a downer.

Ron, you don't look much any bigger than me, and I wear one often. They make 'em big in "real men's sizes." (I think that's how they work it.)

You can't beat them, especially at this price.

    Hey Ron
I've got a gut somewhat like yours and my WPG works great. I usually wear my kilts higher than most though, just under the ribs with the WPG. I call my MacKenzie WPG "The Beast". Most of the other reviews are dead on. It weighs a lot, at times is kind of scratchy, but oh is it warm. I used it for winter activities and with some SmartWool boxers it made it out and down to 0. The thick material blocked the wind and did not flap up so that cold air worked its way up the front.
It is heavy though and if I wear it inside for too long it does get uncomfortable/warm. With a pair of good socks the Beast kept me going for the better part of the winter. I'll still be wearing it until it gets really warm out here in June. Nulty

    Ron:

If you mess up on the length, Jerry Lee is great at exchanges. He's a class act in terms of customer service.
