Sounds like your friend is still a member of the Naval Sea Cadet Corp. Have fun at the prom fellas!

Snoop ebay for Mess Jackets. That's the other alternative to the Eton.

Uniformalwearhouse sells a backless 3 button vest that works well with either OR, with the Eton or the Mess jacket you can dispense with the vest and wear a nice kilt belt.

I think your 'friend' is living in fantasy land. The SEALs may not be the SAS but even I know that they don't take sprogs. their training program is about 30 months for those that pass the selection process.

As pointed out by other posters: Why would your 'friend' be wearing his kilts in uniform on duty? By definition a uniform is clothing that is the same as everyone else is wearing. The only members of the US military who wear kilts are a few Pipers and I've heard of a few people who are allowed to wear kilts with Mess Dress for special Celtic occasions.

That said maybe your chum could get hold of a 2nd hand Naval Mess Jacket (Blue or White) and remove the badges and buttons from it. It would make a damn fine jacket to wear at a prom and would advertise his maritime intentions.

This item on eBay is a Brit one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ROYAL-NAVY-OFF...QQcmdZViewItem
The 'Eathen in his idleness bows down to wood and stone,
'E don't obey no orders unless they is his own,
He keeps his side arms awful,
And he leaves them all about,
Until up comes the Regiment and kicks the 'Eathen out.
