What does one who is not re-enacting do at such an event? Is it appropriate for children to attend?

Definitely a family affair. You watch the "battles," tour the period camps, gawk at the open-fire cookery, admire the crafts, clothing, and weapons, ask questions of the participants ("Are you going to eat that?", "Did you really sleep in those tents last night?", "Are those uniforms hot?", and my personal favorite: "Do they pay you to do this?"), and spend money at the various vendors. Loads of fun...!

Aye....tis all true what Brian says. He and I have battled Englishmen and we have battled each other (not enough Gov't troops last year, so my lads had to play the "good guys" HA!).....Anyway, tis good, tis educational, tis colourful. I will not be able to attend this one, but will be at Ft. Ontario in NY, Aug. 29 to 31.....so, if you're close (even if you're not)....come out to see us. For Jacobite events, my lads are Clan Chattan.....I canna wait! Malcolm

I was declined my vacation, however I took the Monday off instead, if there is a gathering afterwards I'd love to attend.

You'll be missed Malcom. If all goes according to plan, we'll be at both events. So I'll be seeing you in Canada, Brian. I'll be piping for the Lochiel, hope we have a few more pipers this time.

Blast and damn! Hell and death!! Buggery on the high seas!!! Now I can't go either. My vacation request at work for that weekend got shot down. God-cursed Postal Service...!

That's too bad Brian, I was looking forward to it, but neither one of us will make it now.
