    Moses and the Haggis...

The Scottish folksinger Ed Miller once told a story about a piper from Glasgow who immigrated to California and was hired to play at Heston's home for a private Burns Supper. The piper, along with a drummer, played as Heston entered, in full Highland rig, and then recited "The Address to a Haggis".

The drummer turned to the piper and said: "I never thought I'd see that!"

    "what?"

    "Moses addressing the Haggis!"

He was a WHOLE lot more than just an actor. "Gentleman" is the word that best sums him up.

I thinkd there are very few "modern" actors if any who will fill his shoes.

Dang those apes, they finally got him!!

A few of today's actors may make it, but very few will stand the test of time as he has.

I was thinking he finally got away from them.

The world has lost a man of integrity and I will miss him. It was Frank Sinatra who quiped about Mr, Heston "If he (Heston)
isn't careful he'll give actors a [I]good name!." He also I believe was one one of the narrators for the "Instruments of War" documentry and did an audio edition of the Bible.

Say does anyone have a link to him in a kilt? I wasn't aware of his clan affiliation. Very cool!

    Bill

Sorry about the over use of italics I couldn't get them turned off.

I watched Ben Hur fairly recently and his performance was just amazing. Definately one for the ages.

    Cheers

No camera here at the moment. But, I just so happen to have his likeness, as Moses, from the cover of The Ten Commandments tattooed on my forearm.

The posts discussing firearms or the NRA and Mr. Heston's role in that organization have been deleted and the thread is being restored. If you feel the need to further discuss firearms or the NRA please re-read the rules of Xmarksthescot.com and take the discussion a more appropriate forum on the internet.

The original poster has asked about the status of this thread, and after review by the moderators, it is being restored for now. Any further deviation towards the NRA or firearms will get the thread removed for good. Many were fans of Mr' Heston's work as an actor, so please allow them to express their condolences or memories without taking the thread back down towards the gutter.

    Thank you for your co-operation.
