Wow, nice. I ordered my Irish Co. Longford kilt without ever having seen more than an online swatch, and all the colours were different. But I like it more each time I wear it (which is a lot!). I like the subtle tones of this MacDonald tartan.

I will only wear ONE tartan,so there is no danger of me troubling the Gordons! Thanks for the advice though.

Riverkilt - "Kilt is 16 ounce Strome from Lochcarron mills" - how is the feel of the Strome fabric. This is the first that I have heard of it, and I am trying to find a good mill for my 1st tank.

I don't want to steal Ron's thunder here ,but Lochcarron are one, could be the biggest, weavers of tartan in Scotland and are of the highest repute. If you go to their website you will find a very useful bit that shows pictures of their tartans.

I would say if you go with Lochcarron Strome weight you have found an exceptional mill and an excellent fabric for your first 8 yard 16 oz kilt, my Isle of Skye my Graham of Mantieth, and a few others are of from this range, the hang and swing of it are both excellent, I would say most 8 yarders that are 16 oz are from the Lochcarron mill. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to go to your local tartan shop if you are lucky enough to have one close look at the swatch book, and see how it feels to you.
