what's that cantle and where did you get it?
I bought the cantle from stillwater kilts but they no longer sell them

    Skunk

Here's a skunk sporran, that I just completed so that I can wear it tonight. I took apart a cheapo sporran, sanded and painted the cantle and then sewed the skin on front. I also made some dingleberries for it, but it looks too busy with them and I like it better just plain.

Those cheapo sporrans are good for a couple of things!

The problem is that there isn't a large selection of cantles available without attached sporrans. Maybe someone with jewelry making expertise could get into that niche.

I had a hair on buffalo sporran made by www.missaprilscarpetbags.com

Had her make it 9" x 7" with 1 1/2" sides. The flap is the same piece as the back and comes over the top and nearly the whole length of the front. Its so heavy there's no closure needed. Don't know how thick or strong bear leather is but this worked well with buffalo for a simple functional sporran. I'm lovin' it. Dyed the gray lether brown since this photo was taken.

There's a wide loop on the back for a sporran strap.

    sporran tassel's

Is there a reason for those two or three tassel's on the front of most sporran's or is it just traditional decoration?

On many 18th century hunting bags there are several straps hanging down from which a hunter would hang small game whilst hunting keeping blood out of the inside of the hunting bag/pouch.

The tassels are decorative remnants of formerly functional thongs that were used to close a sporran. They have taken on a life of their own in the modern versions, both casual, semi-, and dress. Sometimes less is more, as in this one I made recently - also skunk.
