You could always PM CelticRanger66 to see if this young Major was asked to leave the ball or reprimanded.

BC, I do not know if you are actively serving in any of the branches of the armed forces, but I would never make a mockery of the uniform I have worn for over 22 years. Perhaps in the future before making a suggestive posting, your first post at that, you just might want to do some research and discover the differences between a Dining Inn, Dining Out, and Military Ball. Furthermore,
I am, in fact, serving in the military and in the Army at that. To me, when you mix the military awards with civilian attire like that, it is indeed a mockery.

Well, everyone is entitled to his or her opinion and you have given yours, so you can move on. What a bout the fine veterans on this site and throughout the world that served this great nation, are they not allowed to wear their highly earned medals on Veterans Day, 4th of July, December 7th, 9-11, because they no longer are in the armed forces. You did say that wearing military medals with civilian clothing would make a mockery of the uniform and medals.

[QUOTE=BostonCeltic;533717]Don't you think maybe a kilt wouldn't be such a great idea? Wouldn't some of your senior people not be too happy about it? Possibly kicking you out and/or getting into some trouble?
BC,
I have worn mess dress/kilt combinations to many Military orientated balls and in fact to some I have worn my PC with minis. I was always the hit of the Ball. I am recently retired with 25 years of service IN THE INFANTRY. My seniors in fact wore kilts with me once!
In June I am going to a Ball with my former CSM and he will be kilted also!!

A Major Observation
I served for ten years and during that time always attended military events in uniform. Civilian events were always attended in civilian attire (unless I was present in a military capacity). If the invitation said "decorations" or "miniatures" I wore my military medals. I've never felt the wearing of medals when appropriate made a mockery of the service or brought it into disrepute. I do feel that the wearing of ribbons or medals on a short sleeve shirt at some local Scottish games IS in poor taste, and on some level DOES make a mockery of the ribbons/medals and marks the wearer out as a BUFFOON...
That said, wearing civilian attire to a ball with miniatures is perfectly acceptable and well within Army regs.

If wearing miniature medals with civilian formal dress is in error, we have a whole MESS o' Marines/Army/Air Force people who goof every year at the local Marine Corps ball. That's the standard for the retirees/former service - except for the few that can still fit into their dress uniforms LOL.
I think you're going to look great, Chris! Carry on!

Rogerson, thanks for the welcome! I am none of the above though. I do find it interesting that it seems you are weighting my opinion due to my possible rank as opposed to one gentleman to another.

McMurdo,
Sir you are correct, my tone was neither civil nor courteous, I respect the fact that BC has his opinion and although others and I may not agree with BC’s opinion, he is still entitled to share his thoughts or suggestions.

I heard today of a Commander at Ft Benning that told his officers that the uniform for dress events was the kilt. They all wore either rentals or their family tartan if they had a kilt already. I still think you'll look good.
