They stay closed just fine, and I've never had any problems with mine.

My buzz kidder sporrans stay closed on its own. I just don't over fill them. I just drop the flap and after a few steps the magnet clicks in place.

I support the use of magnetic closures, also. I've been wearing a Buzz Kidder pretty frequently for about 6 years, and I've never had a problem with cards/cell phones, nor has the clasp ever come undone.

By the way, I forgot to mention that the cell phone case I have is sold by T-Mobile, the same folks who sold me my Sidekick LX, and it has a magnetic closure. I don't think they would distribute this type of closure on a cell phone case if it could do any harm to a cell phone.

Also, the magnetic closures on my Buzz Kidder sporrans aren't as flimsy as some would believe. They actually do stay closed on their own - I've even had a hard time opening it with one hand.

I replaced the snap on one of my sporrans with a pair of the molybdenum magnets... works rather well, but it was a pain to not have the JB Weld coat the ENTIRE magnet (it kept pulling the metal parts in the epoxy around it)

I don't understand...what was the JB Weld's function and why didn't it coat the entire magnet?

I've been making and wearing sporrans with magnetic closures for almost 2 years now. I've never had a problem with a credit card or cell phone and I carry both when I wear the sporran.

As far as the closure holding firm, I think they hold as well as an equal sized patch of velcro. If you are not doing hand stands, I don't think anything will fall out.

Won't hurt you credit cards, but they will erase your room number on a key card at the motel, so be wary.

Of course, putting your key card next to almost anything--including a credit car--will do that, too.

I use a magnetic closure on my sporran all the time with cellphone and credit cards right next to it. Never had a single problem.

For the coyote sporran we are building we re using a magnetic closure. They make specifically for this purpose and can be purchased commercially.

Those look like the same ones used on Buzz Kidder sporrans.
