I have a premier in the Jura range from them and it is great. I also have a standard 8 in the Lochcarron from Tartanweb, and it is my favorite by far. Both are great choices.

Welcome, Jimmy!
I'll second Nick and McNulty. SWK Heavyweight wool is a wonderful kilt. I have the Green Shadow tartan and it's one of my favorite kilts.

If it helps your research any I have an album of Kathy Lare's work, both my nine hand sewn kilts from her and closeups of the inside of her kilts.

macneighill....compromise and get a Barb T in ~4-5 yards - in WOOL - in a box-pleat.
Now you have the best of both worlds...a heavy weight (if available) wool that lays better, yet it's cooler because there's less material.

Kilt pins
I'm looking for a site or perhaps a store in the Los Angeles or Santa Clarita are where I can find some kilt pins.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

OK - I have a slightly different take on your situation. . . . this comes from the perspective of a full time kilt wearer.
I would buy a good quality 5 yard casual kilt. You will spend less money. You can still wear it with a PC. You will spend less money. It can be your starter kilt. You will spend less money.
Seems like I'm hung up on the money thing - right? Well for a first kilt, that is true. If, after you get your first kilt, you find that you really like wearing a kilt, you can branch out in two directions. You can go to Still Water and get some low-end, low cost, knock around kilts, and you can keep your eyes peeled for what you want in your first tank.
Remember all the stuff that you buy to go with your 5 yarder will work with the tank and with a SWK thrifty. Buy good stuff!
You need hose, flashes, kilt pin, belt, buckle, sporran, sporran belt, sgian dubh, hat, etc etc etc......
Just my two cents worth.
Good Luck - I wish I was starting down that path again!
