I have three standards and one heavyweight, and have to say the heayier ones are the way to go for cooler weather, and the standards are great for that hot as h**l weather mentioned previously. I made the mistake of wearing my heavyweight to a festival last August and actually had to leave early as a result! So which one is better all depends on the intended use I would say. Either way, you'll get a lot more kilt for your money than you expect.
I almost bought the heavyweight when I bought my Black Watch from him. Because of what you just wrote, I'm glad I went with the standard. I live in Florida. It's always hot as hell.

My wife and I honeymooned to Clearwater last June. It is indeed hot as hell, and I was so glad that I had the idea to leave the wool at home. I brought my Amerikilt, and that was perfect.
