Be sure to stop off in Asheville as well, it's right on the way to and from Franklin. Asheville is X-Marks territory as well. You would enjoy a Jack-O-The -Wood kilt night.

If you stay in Franklin, I can suggest a few good places you could stay. The Franklin Motel is quite good and owned by my former manager of the Microtel Inn & Suites. It's clean and while it's not a new motel I trust Tanya to have kept it well maintained.
The Microtel Inn & Suites used to be fairly good. Not sure now but I'm pretty sure it still is. The downside is there isn't any really superb breakfast at either location but price wise.. you will get a good deal. If your pockets are deeper than I would note there is a Comfort Inn and a Hampton Inn.
If you go to Franklin, Fat Buddies! Remember those words. Fat Buddies is absolutely the best BBQ. There is at Western Carolina University a great heritage museum. Over in Maggie Valley there is or at least used to be a motorcycle museum. It's April but it might not be so cold to not toss your hand into some ruby mining.
