Can't offer any advice on the pleats but as a "hippy" female I long ago learned the trick with airline seat belts. Prior to sitting down, pull the adjustable end out as far as it will go. Flip both ends of the belt outward, over the adjacent armrests. Then when you sit, they are waiting to be flipped inward and over you for fastening.

Being kilted on an airline is problematic. I'm tall, the limbo fall is from a great distance. My first attempt at sitting down did not go as planned. I think I flashed some upper thigh/hip/cheek. I think the girls in the back of the plane were watching because I over heard one say to the other, watch when he sits. The next time I sat down, I tried to sweep the pleats, kind of like getting into a car. Still ended up like I just got in a car with a wad of pleats in the middle. I think the best way is to have some material wrapped around your pleats and sit, then let the material loose.

    Cheers and happy flying
