We live in a buggy area too, always wear repellent (I'll let you choose the brand), but as noted above, a kilt makes it easier to get at the wee beastie faster. (Voice of experience) Just wanted to add a note; spent most of Friday evening in kilt downtown, including parade, Highland Country Dancing, no bug problem. Saturday evening went out to close the gate and got a super nasty up my trousers leg. That'll larn me!

I think all the people who are coming up with reasons not to wear the kilt due to bugs, insects, midges, flys, bees, etc, etc, are speaking from ignorance.
Being kilted all the time lends more expersinece and I can assure you that it is much easier to dislodge something from under a loose fitting kilt than it is from under and inside those hated cloth tubes.
Come on guys, are you just looking for a reason not to wear your kilts?

I've been on that trip 3 times, and as I remember I used stuff with 100% deet. nasty stuff. little tiny bottle that has lasted me 5 years. but the biting flies were big enough to carry off a small child. ![Very Happy](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
I've camped in a kilt before, like a month ago I spend a week at boy scout summer camp. I had no problem with insects. well I also was the only one who didn't deinfest my tent from the spider colony that was living there.
spiders do help with the insects. maybe you should get a pet spider just hide it up your kilt ![Rolling Eyes](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)
have fun!

Black Flies, Mosquitoes & No-See-Ums
Spend any time in the Boreal Forest (southern Canada, northern US) or at altitude, and you learn instantly that there can be 10 billion black flies, mosquitoes and no-see-ums per cubic kilometer. Flies and mosquitoes are tolerable, no-see-ums get into everything and raise welts everywhere. Every paradise has its thorns and early summer is a time that you do not wear a kilt.

Believe it or not Avon Skin So Soft keeps the pests away.
It smells good and not as nasty as most insect repellents are.
Been using it every summer .

That's why god gave us deet. For extreme situations, you may also want electrified mesh, or even large amounts of fire.
