    Well, as my first kilt is almost certainly going to be a low end Sport Kilt, I don't think I'll have to worry about a pleating style. Though I will keep these tidbits in mind for the day that I can get myself a real kilt made to order....

    I have mine all to the set but I am considering ordering a heavy military kilt set to the stripe in My old Shen's regimental tartan. (Liverpool Scottish rifles based on a brown Forbes Tartan)

    I must admit many tartans are not very suitable for a stripe and I dislike the Box pleat personally preferring the sway of the knife. I have seen many folk ordering a kilt for a wedding and seriously misjudging these things. Presumably based on only wearing them once or twice for a wedding.

    You need to evaluate the set before deciding. Military patterns are obviously a good choice for the stripe.
