I hope it was a deep bow- with your back turned to them.

oh there would have been a salad of elbows, knees, knees in jaws, etc. at the mere suggestion.
most of those guys know me anyway from previous visits, so they were 'mostly' just having a good time.

Being funny works better than getting angry. That just feeds the phenomenon. Good job.

I've been wearing my kilts (mostly UK original, UK Workman's, or AlphaKilt) to work for a while, now. I can get away with not having to wear trousers almost every day. I frequently have to inspect a roof as part of my job, meaning up the ladder I go.
I figure that anyone who looks close enough to tell whether I'm "regimental" is looking with intent to see. Casual observation won't get them far enough for them to be offended.
Most of my clients either say nothing whatsoever about my kilt, or speak appreciatively. The contractors have not been a problem, as far as I can tell. Many of the workers installing the roofing have been Hispanic, and not knowing Spanish I don't understand what they say to each other--and don't really care.
Of course, with my upcoming change in job duties, I may find a different level of acceptance to wearing kilts, but we'll see how that goes.
Lovin' the breeze 'tween m'knees!

I used to finish concrete - did that for too long and wouldn't wear a kilt while doing it! Not even a workman's - concrete just wastes things after a while.
But now with an office job I'll be sporting the kilt when I get my proper tartan (my current kilt's a "McRental" tartan!).
It sounds like you handled this right - and most construction guys are actually pretty cool when you get to know them.

In construction, a mustache and beard doesn't necessarily make the man.
