    I don't see any information about it on the Strome fabric there, but I don't think it is a closed selvedge... I would love to be wrong, though.


    I'm sticking with the tartan, and that's that.

    I think your kilt will be just fine because of who's making it, Galician.

    All of Lochcarron's tartan is now woven with a turned selvedge. But they are very good about placing the selvedge in a part of the tartan where it is as unobtrusive as possible. They do a very nice selvedge, better, in my estimation, than Marton Mills does. So, no one should agonize about any of Lochcarron's tartan.

    It's just my personal opinion that nothing can beat D.C. Dalgliesh custom weaves for overall quality, especially the selvedge.

    Here are some macro shots of the selvedge edge:




    You can still see the tiny loom sprocket holes - I expect they'll eventually close themselves up - but there is no break in the twill. There's a wee bit of roughness where the colors change...



    ...but it is not apparent from when seen from a different angle. And here's just a gratuitous pile of pleats seen on edge:
