I think it's funny that they took a picture of Gerard Butler in a kilt and added Viggo Mortensen's head and moved Butler's head to another picture when he was already kilted.

I see this attude here a lot.. why do we need more celebrities in kilts, or anyone for that matter? I don't need to see celebrities in kilts to feel validated. There seems to be some weird "convert them" pseudoreligion theme running around here from time to time... I just don't get it.

I think I would enjoy it if kilts were a bit more mainstream. Prices would probably be lower, there would be more availability, and wearing them to formal social gatherings in the US would be more appropriate. (and don't tell me you'd show up at just any gathering in a kilt. that would be rude to show up to a stranger's wedding and steal attention from the bride with your kilt, unless there would be other kilted people or you were invited to wear you kilt.)

Where did you pull that from. I check when I know it's not expected... but this is also Nova Scotia, so everyone knows what a kilt is. I'm ex-army (we have Highlanders too), so kilts are always welcome at military functions. And if I don't feel that it would be appropriate to the occasion, I don't sulk about how it's not mainstream.. I just put on my suit.

Actually I would have expected better from Scotweb. I wonder if perhaps Nick has been so busy he's not fully aware of what some of his employees are up to?

I for one, will absolutely say that I DO show up at "just any gathering" in my kilt, without feeling the need to ask. That includes weddings. As far as going to a "stranger's wedding?" Well, i don't make it a habit to crash weddings... I only attend those in which I know someone. Otherwise, what am I doing there anyway?

I always show up kilted as well. It's what I wear to dressier occasions, so why would I ask permission. No one asked me what colour dress or suit they should wear to my wedding. You can select attire to the wedding party, but not for the guests. I have to go with Highland Logan here. We're not Nova Scotia (New Scotland), but even in BC most everyone has seen a kilt before and knows it's a formal dress. They aren't so uncommon as to really cause a commotion.
I don't think I have ever stolen any attention from the bride. I find the wedding party is always appreciative that I put in the effort and dressed nicely for their big day. It shows that the invite to their wedding was something I valued enough to put an effort into. I have yet to attend a wedding wear there is another kiltie, but I have seen people in police, mountie, and military uniforms. I get polite comments during the reception, but never over the top...well, there have been a few ladies laying on the ground, but that's a long story.
I have a hard time believing you can steal attention from a bride on her wedding day simply by dressing nicely. One's actions are more likely to steal attention away than attire. Mike from accounting looking subdued-ly "normal" in his dress shirt and slacks is okay until he is down a bottle and a half of wine and into the rye, from the free bar, before speeches have started.

I have seen real pics of Duchovny from the X-files wearing the kilt, and I followed a link from another story posted on this site where a sporran maker said that Beckham the soccer player was a customer of his, so he must wear one too. It's surprising how many of these 40 actually already wear the kilt in real life. Other people spotted several others, if you look at the comments. Mind you, they obviously knew that Ewan McGregor did, because that pic isn't faked, as I've seen it elsewhere, but someone spotted that too.

That was funny. Denzel Washington would look good in a kilt!
One thing though, Stephen Colbert isn't French. He's IRISH!

Ewen MacGregor's was the only one that didn't look like bad photoshop work. Interesting.
