    You know what they say:

    Alcohol + idiots = instant #######

You handled it the best way possible. Good for you.

I think you acted like a real "mensch" and made the choice not to let the situation escalate. That's the harder action sometimes and in this case probably the better one.

Common sense seems to be a threat to bifurcated fools.

"Common sense" - - Too many syllables for them to understand
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

I know that I am in for some stick for this, but here goes.

As somebody 6'5" and 20 stone I have to say its not something that happens to me very often and when it does I have to say that a quick cutting remark normally does the job, in addition the only people I meet with on a regular basis who also wear a kilt are also bikers (don't know why but its becoming very common) and most bikers I know have sufficient intelligence to keep comments to themselves. However there are occasions when a swift physical response is justified and required, I know, I know, as adults we should be above such responses, and as an officer of the law I should not condone or advocate it however; it is i have to say very pleasant to punch on the nose some ***--le who richly deserves it !! (circumstances permitting of course)

And why should it? They're just a few jerks that have nothing better to do than loiter around in an alley making fun of people so they can trry to forget about their own pathetic, miserable existence. Screw those guys, you got plenty of compliments, and your true friend never left your side.

A sad experience and one we kilt-wearers have to endure occasionally, but you handled it in precisely the correct manner - by ignoring those idiots altogether. Visibly or audibly reacting to their taunts is just what they want from you but, by so doing, you would be stooping to their level and would achieve nothing.

In my early days of full-time kilt wearing, 9½ years ago, I was more than once almost driven to resorting to t------s because of my being on the receiving end of such behaviour. However, I learned to let it wash over me and later, with the confidence that comes with experience, I found I was either no longer being yelled at, or just did not hear the negative comments.

Stick with it, my friend, and it will pretty much go away.

    Take care,
    Ham.

There's always going to be a bunch of morons loitering around in a huddle; that's what they do. They have to hang out in packs, as they have no personality or intelligence on their own, so they (wrongfully) imagine they will acquire it as a group; that's how/why gangs exist. They show their ignorance by the dumb comments they make at passers-by.
