Do you play the pipes also?

I wish I was that quick. The second most ask question (The Question) I encountered at this wedding I answered with, "Well, I'm probably more comfortable than any of the gentelmen in the wedding party", and left it at that with a smile.

I haven't come across that yet since I play the Uilleann Pipes and I'm strapped into those when I play them. Otherwise they're packed away where no-one can damaged them by mistake.

You mean they aren't piled up with everyone else's in a corner of the pub as you get a pint after the fifth parade of the month? ;)

As I said in another thread... unfortunately, I /do/ play the bagpipes.

I used to put them down along with my whistles, guitar and flute but after some drunk stood on my entire whistle set and squashed them flat, I now don't leave anything out. Once I'm finished they all go back into hard cases.

Besides, you can't play the Uilleann Pipes whilst marching as the chanter needs to be closed by placing it on your leg, normally on a piece of soft leather. It's a sit-down job. We leave the marching to the Scottish Bagpipers while we stay in the pub

All in good time I can say I do.

For now though? The answer is I can "play" them.

Gotta get practicing as much as I can soon!!! Thank goodness there's some good musician practice rooms in our campus music building. I've been taking the chanter there a little but I REALLY need to do so more often.

My son and I are both learning to play. We've been on the chanter for awhile now -- in fact, the kiddo (11) won the novice chanter competition at the McPherson (KS) Scottish Frazier We recently bought him some nice Gillander & MacLeods from another band member, and I have the band's loaner set. So we're working on it.
