BTW - in your photo, you've drawn an arrow to what you've labeled the left under apron edge. I assume that you mean the left *apron* edge?

Opps - yes - my mistake.... its the left apron edge (not the under apron). I think I'll move the centre pleat two repeats to the front apron, join it naturally and carry on.

Good tip on the pins and then basting thread! (I've got a 15 marked pleats to tap out and redo!)

Right - time to get some tea for the children, put them to bed and back to the job at hand!

Thanks for all the help everyone - I'm learning loads and despite the slow progress, I know that I'm heading in the right direction. Just hope the finished article is as tidy as all the others I've seen on the site here! You lot dont half make a good job of it - I've seen some lovely kilts looking at the albulms! Top stuff...

p64 of TAofKM states that the first pleat (left of the apron) and the last pleat (right of the underapron) should be mirror images of each other.

Is that identical copies or adjacent elements?

Therein lies the key to laying out pleating to the sett, IMHO. It's taken me three hand-sewn pleated-to-sett kilts to figure this out. Start from the middle and work outwards.

Here's the best method. Mark the pleats from the center back pleat. The center back is the middle and you should have the same number of pleats going towards each apron not counting the center back pleat. You will then end up with the same element next to the apron and underapron.

They need to be mirror images of one another.
