"Tashes" Do you suppose "tashes" is sort of a shortened version of of "sabertache", the small pouch carried by cavalry soldiers and used (officially) for carrying dispatches?

Not to throw a monkey in the wrench or anything, it was twenty years ago when I could look that good in the above displayed jackets. That was back when I had a head of hair.
Seriously, I purchased a standard black wool dress coat for less formal situations. One could consider that option for matters less then state.

I went with the Montrose, but I think ideally it should be in velvet!

I voted for the Kenmore. So many options with it: buttoned up, with jabot; or with a bow tie; unbuttoned with any number of possible waistcoats; unbuttoned with just a belt. Of course, I'd want it made up in velvet.

I had to vote for the Sherrifmuir because it seems so very versatile. It looks as though it would flatter a broad range of body types, too.
Hmm, ought it to be velvet? I think someone has posted pix of a handsome blue velvet one.
For the formal end of the spectrum, the Sherriffmuir seems to demand a bias-cut tartan waistcoat. The most striking examples I've seen look like they have 6 buttons arranged in 8 "spaces" sort of a 00_00_00. Is that how they are laid out? There are others with 5 buttons evenly spaced...

Ya... I'll admit that I have a thing for velvet too. But only if it is good velvet.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
