So here are some pictures of the Kilt.

Front View. It's a striking Tartan... It's also stright out the box so could do with a bit of a pressing.

Back View showing pleating to alternate white and blue stripes.

    The inside lining.

    Buckles and straps.

3rd iteration (copper coloured) 'Rising Sun' Cap Badge and matching 'Australia' shoulder title I'm using as a kilt pin.

Turns out it's not in such bad nick after all. It's never been worn in fact, just stored in a cupboard for several years. Just needs a bit of a press and a good airing and it should be fine. It's a bit on the small side but I intend to rectify that with some kilt strap extenders as described by Ron (Riverkilt) in another thread. They should be coming tomorrow-ish.

It's all hand sewn really is a beautiful kilt.

I'm not generally a fan of the non-matching waistband, but I really like it here! It gives a nice contrast.

The kilt looks fantastic, and I like the pleating as well.

Dunno if this sort of thing bothers you, and as it won't be noticible to anyone... ever, you may ignore it But the Shoulder title Australia is a little off center compared to the cap badge That sort of thing catches my eye, but it won't be noticeable at a glance when it's actually being worn.

That sort of thing does bother me, in fact it bothers me alot. I am a habitual picture straightener.

I just pinned the badge and title on quickly for the picture. They looked OK at the time but the picture really does tell no lies as you've pointed out. You'll be pleased to know they have now been re-applied and are straight. I even measured them into the square in the sett for greater accuracy.

Haha I got a big laugh out of this. Mainly because I'm the exact same way. I am indeed happy, and, although this isn't common practice on these boards, I won't bother demanding pictures for proof ;)

It is important that we do get these things right. Just occured to me though that I'm going to have to take them out again to press the kilt. Aaaah well...

Nice spot of research, well done. It is amazing what one can find out if you continue to ask a question untill you GET an answer.

At least you know where to replace them now

    Post RAR & Australian tartan

Here are some good piccies of the Australian tartan, as worn by the 5/7 RAR* Pipes & Drums:

Note the piccie at the bottom of the page with the pipers wearing the famous "brown slouch hat" (with the side turned up!)

    Good on ya, EB!

    Cheers,

    Todd

    Cheers Todd.

This is an ex 5/7 RAR Kilt.

I am now in a dilemma though as my lovely wife has just tried it on and it seems to fit like it was made for her so it is now HER kilt and no longer MY kilt. After several hours of negotiation it transpires the Kilt is hers but I can wear it sometimes... And then only if it works with the kilt strap extenders... An' if not chubby!! See ya!!

    Don't you just love women!!

Maybe she'll be joining the forum soon... who knows. It does fit her perfectly though. Damndamndamndamndamn...
