Ooh!! I like your thinking on that score! When I make boots, I often have that concept firmly in the front of my mind and do stitch patterns in colours that pull the colour of the foot up into the leg.

    Thank you for that!

Well, since you asked, I say that the first kilt (with the rest of that outfit) is the best and the one you should wear for the Burns Night. It's spot on!

Whoa - what a bunch of nice stuff!

While one should avoid dressing inappropriately - say, for instance, you usually would not want to show up to a brunch or a barbeque in a tuxedo - I think there is nothing wrong with raising the bar a notch and dressing slightly better than the average attendee. (Full disclosure: This is coming from a guy who did not bring any jeans to college until my senior year.) I like your outfits best in the order you posted them. The middle is a close second.

In the third, I think you should consider not wearing the tartan hose with that jacket, as treasured as they are. There is a wide disparity between the formality of the hose and the informality of the jacket. Instead, I'd consider wearing bottle green, claret, or charcoal - and you'd be good to go in that outfit, too.

    Well, that's my 2¢.

    Regards,
    Rex.

I will agree with McMurdo on the Scotland's National with the matching tartan hose, the dress sporan, grey waistcoat, charcoal argyle, and don't forget the buckle shoes (that I assume you made).

Save the new kilt for next year, by which time I'm sure your wife will have knit you a pair of Black MacSween tartan hose.
