The are also interested in the fact that kilts can be associated with names (bring along a copy of Bain's Book of Tartans to pass around). If you can, pull some pictures of George VI, Ewen MacGregor, Laurel and Hardy, and some Scots participating in athletics, as well as a pipe band or two, to use as illustrations. (I think I've seen a photo of the late Prince Barnhard of the Netherlands in a kilt-- you might want to see if you can find it via Google.)

In my experience kids ask why the kilt is worn, why I'm wearing one, and then want to know if everyone in Scotland wears a kilt today. Some ask if it is comfortable, and only very rarely will they ask if anything is worn under it (standard answer in school is always "yes, you wear underwear").

Hope that helps, and good luck with your presentation!

Wool is even warmer when wet. Highlanders forced to spend the night outdoors would soak the tartan in water and wrap themselves up in it. Throughout the night, their body heat would steam out the kilt and in the morning it would be quite dry and plenty warm. This is because the wool fibers expand when wet, sealing the weave tighter. Fact.

Ewan MacGregor was Obi Wan Kenobi in episodes 1, 2 and 3, which were released much later than the 'real' episodes that you speak of. Ewan MacGregor never played Darth Vader.

Science changes. I remember when Light was a set speed, and could not be manipulated. Now, it can be slowed down to around 50 MPH in the lab.

This may be obvious, but people were not running around in pants and/or jeans prior to the introduction of kilts. It's not like Scotland decided to give up pants in favor of kilts. Men wore all manner of what we would term "skirted" garments prior to the introduction of the first identifiable kilt.
