As my dear husband has mentioned, we have a very old edition of Burns' works (poetry, letters, etc) that desperately needs rebinding. The covers might be salvageable, but the spine is pretty much beyond hope. Out of curiosity, what might you charge for something like this? PM me if that seems more appropriate.
Be well,

Thanks for everyone's comments, this was a book I enjoyed working on.
When I get a book that is in a sorry state I have a whole series of decisions to make about the level of repair or rebinding or designer work. Sometimes the client simply wants to book to be rebound in a form that it can be used, sometimes if it is an historic family book, it's important that those things are kept securely, but perhaps they don't need an expensive binding.Sometimes the book is very important and deserves a very special binding.
Thanks F-HCAG ~I'll pm you about further thoughts , but I thought other might be interested in the basics of the process. Of course the bottom line is- the more work the more money, no surprises there!!

Hello Paul
For quite some time I have been writing out the songs I sing - ever since I began forgetting them in mid verse - and I would like to be able to make a copy of them into a proper book to send to the library of the English Folk Dance and Song Society. Having seen what happens to loose collections of information on my few visits - they are soon found to be lost, stolen or strayed - I did think that the songs should be bound properly, but it will have to be a DIY effort.
I can fold A4 size paper exactly in half and write out the songs, putting the sheets together in small bunches, and joining them up by sewing in and out through the folds, but I don't know any more than that, so I have just the bare naked pages, though I have made an attempt to cover card with cloth, and given them a protective case, but the way to put on a proper cover has so far eluded me.
I'd appreciate information on how a book is bound properly - but I doubt I can ever aspire to anything as fine as that copy of Burns - that looks as though it will stave off the ravages of time for centuries.

The subject and the binding are quite equal in value, The Bard deserves no less than what you have done here.
Bravo Sir, well done

You do wonderful work. I'm very impressed !!! I thank you for sharing that with us. Again, absolutely stunning. A piece of art in its self. You should be very proud of the work you do and I'm certain the generations that follow shall thank you most kindly.
