To be honest, I wasn't looking at it for "mistakes" (sorry). I really enjoyed it. I think you captured the moment. Well done.

I wouldn't dare to publicly criticize any aspect someone else's wedding.

    Best regards,

Panache covered it quite well you owned up your known errors and from other threads cured them. Well done just remember in the sceme of things the day belongs to the bride and groom all others are accesories and background.

Over time I stopped bothering to do so because small fashion errors, mismatched colors, odd combinations of highland attire are not nearly so important in that setting as skill and joy in dancing.

This looked like a marvelous wedding and the love between the groom, bride, and their families and friends was very clear.

The "Fashion Rules" in this instance is not nearly so important as the happiness of the day (everyone looked wonderful).

    However...

You have thrown down the gauntlet and I shall pick it up

    What I noticed

Wedding Party (Men) Had I been a longer member of X-marks I would have noticed these as well. Next Kilted wedding I will make sure they are all apprised of the proper etiquette.
    (1) Regular ties worn with Prince Charlie jackets and three button waistcoats Check
They should have worn bow ties

    (2) Belts with waist plates worn with three button vests Ditto per McMurdo
They should have worn one or the other not both

    (3) Semi-dress sporrans worn with Prince Charlie jacket and three button waist coats Next time I advise more formal sporran

This is actually fairly minor item, the sporrans work fine but a formal cantled one I think would look better with the PC

It should be noted that these three items are actually promoted by kiltmakers and kilt shops. The groom and groomsmen look great. They were one and all quite dashing and each should look back with pride on how dashing and handsome they were at that wedding. The above items are really nit picking, but that was the challenge presented.

    The Minister (i.e. you)

(Keep in mind that you have asked my opinion and I give this in the spirit of good fellowship. No offense is meant, only help) None taken At all Sir!

(4)Regular cut jacket worn with kilt Never, ever again.

It is far too long to be worn with a kilt. You need one cut for a kilt. I'm not sure but I think that that jacket might be a good candidate for a conversion to a kilt jacket. Take a look at some of the threads David Dalglish and The F-H.C.A.G. have done on the subject. A tailor or seamstress could shorten the coat, add a sporran cut away, and add some epaulets to turn it into a nice Crail type jacket. Had not thought about that, It actually is a Jack Nickalus Sport jacket, Since I don't wear it much for what I bought it for, that is indeed a possibility
(5)Formal Sporran and white hose (Part 1, Sporran)

I honestly think that to pull off white hose and that formal sporran you need a tux shirt, a formal cut jacket, and a bow tie. There is a bit of debate concerning white hose here on XMTS. If you are going to wear them at all I think they should be worn with a full formal rig.

Amen, I have since invested in a much more formal PC and Waist Coat, Tux shirt, Black Bow Tie, as well as a less formal Black Sporran and Black Argyle jacket.
Assuming that you have the jacket modified to become a kilt jacket it is still going to not be quite formal enough to pull off the sporran and white hose.

There are some pretty reasonably priced semi formal sporrans to be had (just look at our XMTS sponsors!) And match the metals on the belt and sporran!

Also you are wearing your sporran too high, it looks like it is rubbing up against the belt. Adjust your sporran belt to have it hang a little lower (there should be a space between the waist plate and the top of the sporran.

    (6) Formal Sporran and white hose (Part 1, Hose)

I think that a pair of colored hose (perhaps lovat blue) would really look far smarter than the white hose with your outfit. Also turn the hose tops a little further down. You don't need to show so much of the flashes. Noted, I have since invested is several different colors of hose; Black, Blue, Grey and Oatmeal
    (7)Tie

The western bow tie just doesn't work with the outfit. It is very much a part of a Western look and just looks out of place with highland attire. There are those that have managed to pull off mixing Western wear and Highland apparel but it requires a certain amount of humor to do so. When officiating a wedding I think it would be far better to go more traditional. I would suggest a regular tie, perhaps one that picked up the yellow or black in the tartan. The tie was an attempt at a "pastor's cravat" that really did not come off as I wanted, That tie is now and will remain part of the "Western Collection" and will not cross over to the Celtic side of the closet.

    (8) Front aprons Noted, I have since learned to check these and make sure they are lined up correctly!
Make sure that your two front aprons are lined up. They appear uneven in the video.

    (9)The Hat

The red beret didn't add anything to your outfit. Berets are fine, but this one seemed rather small. A wider beret, or better yet a tam or balmoral bonnet (in Navy or Royal blue) would look much sharper Indeed, the Beret will from now on remain as what it has been, a hiking camping head cover. New Balmoral is in order.
    Wedding Party (Ladies)

    They were all exquisite!

These are my observations and opinions based on what I have learned here on XMTS! I hope they are taken in good fellowship as I that is what they are written in.

Exactly so! For those who don't invite constuctive criticism, there is no go way to learn from ones mistakes! I offer this as a note; the kids here were so in love it was evident through out. I had never worn a kilt up until this event, I wanted to make their wedding as memorable as possible. In retrospect I suppose I should have done as much research on the Kilt and cloths as I put into the ceremony. I have done many weddings, but this was my first Scottish one. I am so glad I got to be a part of it, because if i had not, I would not have found the wonder people on this forum, and have learned so very much. Yes, old dogs can learn new tricks!

    Cheers

That's nice. I see two things- first, you need to identify yourself in some way. Second, on the outfit, I personally don't like wearing a blue shirt with my clergy tartans. It's just too much blue in my opinion.

    Brooster,

Make that two cocktail onions instead of an olive and I will take you up on that offer!

Good for you to use yourself as an example as what you have learned from the membership of XMTS.

We all start somewhere and to the best of my knowledge only you, Ayin McFie, and myself have offered ourselves up to show where we started to help new kilties learn from our mistakes.

I am very appreciative of all the help I have received here.

Because of this I have gone from this...

    to this...

Now if I am deviating from the rules it is by deliberate choice and not ignorance.

As my lovely wife recently wrote about XMTS...

    WE ROCK!

Also, as much as I hate Pachelbel's Canon, the Royal Scots Dragoon Guard does a version of it on "Spirit of the Glen" which you may want to use for a more Scottish feel.
