Don Fogg is a fantastic smith, and lives about 15 minutes from my grandparents now after he moved. I've been meaning to get up to one of his classes at the new england school of metalwork ever since he moved up to Maine, but i havent had the time or money yet. Some day !

I had the same thought about sgian dughs; that is, it's hard to decide what form/kind you want. However, I always came back to the one that first struck me as "the one" for me. It's a military style one from Matt's Scottish Tartan's Museum. I bought it this year for formal occassions. One great thing about this is that Matt had the exact one I wanted in stock, which has an imitation Cairngorm stone.

I tend to pick the days sgian dubh or sock knife to match the planned activity. Sure, I have some favorites, but as every one of them is a real knife and not just a show piece, it makes little difference which one I choose, as all are equally useful. I wouldn't own a knife that wasn't real. And this includes the three "dress" blades that I wear with formal attire.
I think I need to make another concerted effort to gather all my knives together and pose them again.
