There is no need for the hose to match at all. This is somewhat of a myth, actually. As has been pointed out, your chief wears red , and even pink, hose with the kilt. So did his father. So do a great number of Highland Scots.

I agree, although tartan hose look very sharp with a kilt, you really don't need to match the hose color to the tartan. A very cool effect is to wear a shirt and hose in a matching color that isn't found, but complements, the tartan. I have seen this done and it looks very nice.

The bottle green looks very good as well, I just do not have the right flashes to wear the green ones, yet. So, tomorrow it will have to be blue or black.

Here's my Campbell a/c kilt by Barb T. I wear the dark gray, bottle green, and navy or black hose mostly. I didn't think the lovatt green went all that well, and I don't have the blue.
