To reduce the kick out, make sure the top belt buckle is at the level of your navel. The bottom of the kilt should be at the top of your knee cap so you have room to hike the kilt up a bit.

Congratulations on the new kilt.
As Wally above and others have said, the kilt does need to move up a bit.
With a traditional wool kilt the fell should stop slightly above the widest part of the backside. Looking at where the right side of the front apron tries to curve and the left side first pleat bulge is stress being put on the bottom of the fell. The kilt should move up to relieve this strain on the wool. The interfacing should be supporting the wool, not your hips. Once you find this position, the kilt will swish and sway properly.

That's a smart looking tartan. The pleat situation is due to the kilt not hanging right on you. Adjusting the straps and/or hiking the kilt up will fix that.

That is a fine looking tartan.
So far, I've only really contemplated buying kilts in tartans that I have some connection with: Anderson, U.S. Navy, X Marks and Polaris Military. I may have to re-think that position somewhat.

I am strangely drawn to this tartan. Congratulations on your acquisition.

Now that I think about it, I was messing with mine on St.Pat's morning...I couldn't figure out why it was doing that. But I don't have two straps on side like some of you said. I have one on the left and one on the right. i don't know, I'll try the hike up trick.
Otherwise, I'm diggin' that tartan, i also really like the Isle of Skye i think its called.
