Ah, I did not in fact make the wonderful little demi-lune we keep in our hallway. But thanks for the compliment! It is a fine piece we picked up in Ohio at an Amish store and as soon as I set my eyes on it I knew it was just precisely the right length and depth for that space.
And thanks for all the kind words on the box; I just hope the new owner likes it as much.
Oh, and PMs sent where appropriate.

And the contents of the box.....

Hopefully we'll get some photos of the Dirk and Sgian Dubh in their box.

Geh... I'm nervous now, Rab!
I hope the dirk fits! It just looks so huge next to the sgian dubh! I know 450mm is under 18" and the inside of the box is more like 19", so I shouldn't be worried, but... I am, none the less.
It is a very smart looking piece of work, though. I love the brass and the darkened oak. I might have to get your technique from you and give it a try.
I noticed the pommel cap has the knotwork in the edge of it, making it a bit wavy instead of smooth. Thanks for making the inlay disc with a little bit of an extra edge that was smooth. I can't imagine having to try and inlay around all the knotwork, especially with all of the time constraints we were under. Making a 2" diameter hole with a forstner bit was MUCH easier!
Once again, it was a pleasure working with you.

*whew*
With just a minor delay for some import tax, the box arrived yesterday (the day before the wedding) and they both love it.
No matter how good I think I've done on a box, the only opinion that really matters to me is the one of the person who bought it.
Iain said to look for pictures of the Dirk and sgian dubh in the box at a future date.

Simply exquisite work from both of you!

From an old woodworker, it is beautifully done.
I also know what you mean about never being totally satisfied with what you have made. That, I am afraid, is the mark of a true artist/craftsman.
Congratulations!
