If you need to stop between Austin and New Orleans, we got a spare room and a Tilted Kilt near by....
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

Ya should also detour into the Seattle area, then drive US 101 from Olympia up to Port Angeles, then down along the coast to Oregon.

I will second the recommendation of driving the 101 from the Olympic Peninsula down to northern CA. One of the great American roads with regularly spaced historic lighthouses for "rest" stops. I just had a vision of a lone piper in the mist at the base of Haystack Rock
I am not your typical kilter, though That is just after my finals! Yay! So if you need a spot in STL and don't mind some STL style BBQ and some pretty boring returning students we have a couch for ya.
Well, looking at your route you'll certainly have many opportunities to meet up with XMarkers. Just make sure you:
1. Beware that if you hit the territory of The Sonoran Scotsmen you might end up staying another week before you are sober enough to drive.
2. The So Cal Rabble have to be watched.
3. The Nor Cal Rabble will corrupt you beyond imagining.
4. I'm afraid to even contemplate the WACKOS. (You at least need to go a few miles further north)
Have fun and know that I (and others) am envious.
Hey thanks, I think I'll post something on their group boards and try to find an open floor with one of them.

I'm not sure if we'll actually stop in St. Louis, we might just drive through from Memphis. But if we decide to take a rest in MO, I'll be sure to let you know!
