I could make a list well into double digits of all the kilts and accessories that I'd like, but to keep things simple, I'll list only the kilts that I want most, in order of importance.

    1. A tank in the Malcolm tartan (my family name)

    2. A 16oz wool Newsome box pleat in the US Army tartan (I served in the Army)

    3. A kilt of undecided weight and format in the US Navy tartan (to honor my Grandfather's service in WWII)

    4. A kilt of undecided weight and format in the X Marks The Scot tartan (in honor of all the great people and information I've found here)

For now, my want list is short mainly because of lack of funds. And since I opt to buy the more expensive hand made kilts, then my list is therefore short by design.

    Already acquired:
1- Ancient MacKay 13oz kilt from Burnett and Struth
2- Sporran, hose and fly palid
    3- Argyle and waiscoat

    Want list:
1- Modern Bruce tartan hand made 13 oz kilt (great-grandmother)
2- Isle of Sky tartan hand made 13 oz kilt (because I like it)

    Maybe:
    1- utilikilts

I have three kilts so far:-

    Irish National
    Solid Black
County Cork (House of Edgar version)

I have a fourth Kilt on the way, a Solid Green one.

    After that, I don't know.

I do want another SportKilt, but I'm not sure which tartan, except it will be an Irish one of some kind. Maybe All Ireland Green, maybe St. Patrick, maybe even Irish Clover?

I would also like a Solid Saffron kilt, but I am cheap! I don't see the $70 Solid Saffron Standard on the Stillwater Kilts site now. Maybe they are just out of stock? I can wait. I know they have the Heavyweight in the Saffron Shadow tartan, but it's more money and I'd really prefer it to be just a solid colour.

Eventually I would like a kilt in Callaghan tartan, but that will have to be made specially as they aren't available anywhere and the fabric is special order, so not anytime soon.

Ideally, I would also like one in St. George, to represent England, but this is a special order tartan as well, so Callaghan takes precedence.

I like the Arsenal FC (soccer club) tartan too, and I'm a supporter, but all I've seen available in it was a dog lead, and I don't even have a dog!

I know there's no way I'm ever having as many as three kilts made up from special order tartans! I'm not made of money.

I really like the Caledonia tartan for some reason. OK, I like things that are bright and gaudy, but it's well down my list, after all those others. I'm not Scottish anyway.

    My list consists of:

    Scottish National

    Black Watch

    Black Thistle

My Seton Modern is still in the construction stage at ScotWeb,{they just moved the date to June 5th)

I'm waiting on the Kilt yardage for my new Clan Claus 8 yd kilt and Fly Plaid.
It's on the way from the weavers.

I would love a new Kilt Jacket but cant decide which one from ScotWeb
to get for my size, to look best.

    This will have to do it for this year.{Maybe}

    My list consists of
    US Army
    7th Cavalry
    Black Watch
Douglas (undecided on which tartan exactly)
Scott Hunting Ancient or Brown Ancient
    Confederate Memorial

I think the only ones that I want as tanks are the 7th Cav and Douglas. The others I want in a lighter wool of Newsome construction (preferably).

A USAK Tara/Murphy PV semi trad is next up on my short list. After that I've got these I'm thinking about (in no particular order):

--Cargo Freedom Kilt (not sure which color or weight of fabric)

--R Kilt denim (I really want one like this one [not the olive green], but I'd request black leather straps, etc.):

    --County Sligo woolie:

--Derry woolie (same tartan as on the USAK home page):

--UK Survival or Workman in brown

--And after seeing a very good swatch pic, an XMarks woolie (but I guess I'll have a loooong wait)

Interesting question. I guess the answer to buying on impulse is "yes" but so far I've done that precisely once (with kilts...).

I was raised in a family that celebrated two heritages. Even so, there wasn't a lot of emphasis on actually getting the accoutrements to go with it. We ate Celtic-inspired food most of the year, but Christmas was always time to acknowledge the Norwegian side.

I've been putting off getting a traditional in Hay since 1977. Only lately I've gotten settled enough in my life to think about it seriously. So far I have only non-trads in my kilt locker.

One thing I know about myself is that I sometimes have trouble sorting out my priorities on short notice. I tend to give a possible purchase some time to percolate, then see if it still seems like a good idea in a few weeks.

At the moment, I've got both editions of Alan Hebert's instructions and an antique Singer treadle machine. This is dangerous. I even know how to get around the inside of a fabric store. I have it in mind to try my hand at a couple of kilts, but I also have it in mind that Mr. Ashton is gonna get the commission soon to make a special kilt to celebrate a momentous life event for me.

Getting the jones for a "real" kilt in Hay also makes me more conscious of the many ways of wearing a kilt. I will be haunting the local thrift shops looking for a convertible jacket, I've recently bought up some kilt hose and a couple of sets of Steve's flashes, I've gone kilted more often than I even used to, I've dug out a scrap of knife steel to make a "sgian brew" and I'm even thinking about acting like a better human being occasionally. ("About time," the voice of my mother says in my head.)

So I guess my list is more about making the kilts I have more useful in more situations, and then about getting more kilts.
