It depends. For a suit with matching waistcoat, it goes on one hanger. Yes, it is a bit of trouble to take the jacket off the hanger first. But in my house, built before the days of walk in closets, it is a necessary saving of space. If the vest is to be worn with a variety of jackets, kilt and otherwise, then it goes on a separate hanger. I also buy hangers that have a hook built in so several jackets, shirts, or whatever, can be hung one above the other.

Just slip the waistcoat off under the jacket. I don't see a need to use two hangers.

Exactly, Carolina Kiltman, you can hang the hanger with the waistcoat on the jacket's hanger, and it doesn't take up any more space.

But now I'm wondering if the two waistcoats I now have could be used with the other jacket... One is dark, dark, brown, almost black like coffee, and the other is the medium brown corduroy that has been seen on the forum. Actually, the dark brown jacket has been shown too; it just hadn't been chopped yet.

Anyway, they are two different textures and fabrics... Might be a neat experiment.

And the last thing I want to happen, with six cats, is for any of my jackets to fall on the floor while I'm putting on my waistcoat.

What about when you are wearing the jacket and waistcoat, and go to hang them up?

Actually, one of the times a jacket fell on the floor was when I was trying to slip it out from under the jacket; it slid off the hanger.

Seems we're addressing two separate issues here.

One is putting both waistcoat and jacket on a single hanger to save space in the closet. The second concerns convenience in putting waistcoat and jacket on - without running the risk of dropping one or the other on the floor in the process.

I put matching jacket and waistcoat on the same hanger to save space. When putting them on, or taking them off, I place the jacket on something until I can put on (or take off) the waistcoat. Sometimes I just grab a spare hanger to put the jacket on until I can get everything organized.

Similar situation exists when putting on, or taking off, and hanging up a suit -- the trousers () have to go on the hanger first before the jacket and waistcoat, yet I suspect most men take off their jacket first and then their trousers.

Nah...I think its just a lack of enough hands. We need at least one extra hand to hold the jacket while we put on the waistcoat, or do it in reverse. I tried holding my jacket by my teeth but then I had a soggy collar to deal with (which may be worse than cat or dog hair).

I put one of those over-the-door hooks on my closet door so I have some place to hang stuff I don't have enough hands to hold on to.

Same hanger with the matching jacket so they don't get separated and lost. I've never had a problem hanging them together as long as I am careful to assure that the waistcoat is straight underneaith.

Oh, the waistcoat hanger is hanging on the pants bar of the jacket hanger, and inside the jacket.

I have one of the over the door hanger things, but I need another couple of hooks over at the closet. I should put a few hooks over there.

I have one gray waistcoat, right at the moment, that goes with all four of my suits, including the gray suit that it belongs with. Over in the kilt jacket section, I have a medium brown corduroy jacket with matching waistcoat, and a newly converted, dark coffee brown jacket and matching waistcoat. I think I might be able to switch the waistcoats for different looks with the jackets, so that is where I am coming from with this. I swap waistcoats.

I really don't think I will wear the gray waistcoat with the brown jackets... So it will stay over in the suit section, but still gets swapped. Especially with my black suit.

I put them on the same hangar. Saves some of my scarce closet space; but more importantly, saves me the dreaded "where the hell is my waistcoat, my jacket is right here!" time.

This way, the waistcoat and matching jacket are always in the same place.
