I think the all black look would be great for the banquet.

I also think that the comencement outfit you have chose would look very sharp, especially with a black tie.

Hope it all goes well and we can see some pictures.

I'm a firm believer one should dress to please ones self. Black is fine with me, for both occasions, after all they are formal. Just my two cents worth!

I like the black on black on black look myself, and have actually been told I dress like Johnny Cash sometimes at work.

I have a Black Isle kilt which is practically all black with just the subtlest of very dark grey tartan pattern running through it that works well with either the argyll or a charcoal tweed, with either black or charcoal hose and black flashes. When worn with a black shirt and either black or very dark grey tie it looks smashing, while not yielding up its scottish nature as there really is a visible pattern in the tartan. I will have to search for a photo to post as I cannot access them from my work computer right now.

i love black on black too. I think it's a sharp look. I also have to add that black tends to be slimming....so if you are bigger, it might look better than if you went with color anyway.

Looking more and more like all black is indeed the route I will go for the banquet.

Thanks all! And thanks cloves... The opinion of a lass is always necessary before making a final decision on one's attire!

I like black. In fact, like FM, I wear black a good bit with my main kilt. The tartan is Dunbar, which is bottle green on red, and I've worn black hose, belt, Thorfinn with black leather "chain", and a black shirt, and I got a ton of compliments. I'v used green and red flashes with this combo.
Good luck at the banquet, and you'll look smashing as long as you feel good.

Having done the all black I recommend the all black route or to mix it up go all black with a white tie.

Is all of your black stuff the same shade of black? I have a black collarless shirt that I really like, but my black britches are a lighter shade of black (probably from the laundry), and together the difference is noticeable.

I'd suggest a red tie with the all-black kit. To my eye, red and black is a good combination.

I wore black slacks, a black shirt, black chuck taylor's, and a red bow-tie to a dance once. Was definitely a hit.

Red is a nice color to break it up. Maybe Flashes would look good?

I do like red and black... That would require my purchasing another tie, of course. Hmm...
