The red should tie in nicely with the red stripe. Look forward to seeing the photos. BTW,...welcome to the forum.

    Welcome to XMarks.

The sporan is indeed distinctive. How it would work would, I think, depend on the entire ensemble: the jacket, the kilt belt, the ghillie brogues, tie, shirt, waistcoat/vest, etc, and how it all ties together. Or how and if the elements contrast in a pleasing way. I wouldn't worry, though, about being too color coordinated. But that's just me.

What you like and feel good in is what's important. Just laid out $300 for an L&M Sporran. Pleased with the results. Went through STM. I did fur though and did the design your own sporran thing.

You'll be pleased with anything from L&M

L&M does a faux fur option, something I did consider before I settled on my beaver.

    Welcome to the rabble!

Nice tartan choice, and I too think the sporran will be fine dressed up with the appropriate dress accoutrements. It has the classic dress shape but without the metal cantle and fur front, so it can also be dressed down a bit for lighter duty wear.

Hello and welcome from just up the road in Savannah.

Just seconding the others thoughts here. That's a handsome semi-dress sporran and you should get a lot of use from it...it will work for your formal function and you'll be able to dress it down as well for business wear if you wanted to.

First off - from coastal North Carolina.

The sporran looks fine, but for a formal event the other accessories are equally important. Are you wearing a jacket? I would suggest a black Argyll. can be worn with a white turtle neck, regular shirt and tie, or dress shirt with bow tie. Gives you lots of options. Hose color and shoes also need consideration. You have come to the right place for advice.

    Sporran choice

A handsome hunting style sporran indeed that will work as has been said; "dressed up or down." You might consider going with a solid black sporan of the same style only because the red may limit it's use with some tartans. If you only plan on having the one kilt it will work fine. Just something to consider.
    Best wishes, and welcome.
    Respectfully,

That's a nice looking sporran, and there is no reason it couldn't be worn on "dress" occasions.

I rather like your tartan. Looks great; and the red in the sporran will pull out that lonely red stripe.

Welcome to the forum. You'll find that we love to see pics, so be sure to post some when you get your kit together!
