I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Hello and a warm Celtic from Boston, Massachusetts.
For running, I like the Sport Kilt with the fell sewn down. This is only a small distance on the pleats. This is in the rear and has no adverse effect on running, only the positive of helping the kilt stay where you put it. I find the kilt less restrictive than running shorts. IMHO. Worked OK for me in the annual Hopkington to Boston run several years ago.

I was once a competitive runner. Now I'm just a middle aged guy who does 4 mile maintenance runs 3 or 4 times a week. But I've been running for over 30 years and have logged a LOT of miles. Kilts and running? I might consider wearing a Sport Kilt for a short fun run, but, IMHO, even a lightweight SK is too much material flying around. I'd get sick of the swish swish swish real quick. That said, have you checked out the running kilt? Seems like a much more utilitarian garment for slogging out the miles:

Oh and welcome from the San Francisco Bay Area!

I am no expert at kilted running but I would think that the constant banging of a sporran would not prove too comfortable.
