Yeah I thought it was part of the four finger rule. Thoug I thought it was a Crotch-guard as well. To hide that bump in the apron...

I use sporran hangers instead of a sporran chain or belt. This keeps the sporran at a good height and no problem of bunching.

The four finger rule would only apply to Kilts worn at Military height.

    Try this....

If you your Kilt at anything lower than the bottom of the ribs Cinch up your sporran strap or chain until the top of the sporran is just touching the Kilt belt buckle. Then walk around for a while. See if the apron behaves.

If you wear your Kilt at Full Height with the top strap cinched in just under the ribs at the side, then cinch the sporran up until the top of the sporran is touching the bottom of your naval. You'll find it is now 3 or 4 fingers below the belt buckle.

If everything is hanging properly,, problem solved.

No. 1 general rule I have learned from watching Kilt wearers at Highland Games. 90% are wearing the Kilt and sporran too low.

Apron bunching? pull up the Kilt and sporran.
Left pleat kicking out? Pull up the Kilt and sporran.
Pleats hanging in stage curtains in the back? Pull up the Kilt and sporran.
Shirt trying to come untucked? Pull up the Kilt and sporran.
Kilt feeling like it's loose and going to fall off. Pull up the Kilt and sporran.
Feeling the pleats swish against the back of your knees or calves? Pull up the Kilt and sporran.
