I think it sounds like canny ebay vendors covering all bases, and making sure all sectors of the market are catered for. Having said that, I lived in Brighton for many years, Britain's gay capital, and have many gay friends. I must say, I saw far more kilts being worn in all styles by gay men than on straight men, especially during gay pride. I think it can be a way to be masculine and slightly flamboyant for men of all persuasions, and perhaps part of its popularity in gay culture may owe something to its championing by Jean Paul Gaultier in the 90s.
Not being gay myself, this could all be nonsense! Perhaps one of Xmarks' gay members could put me straight (no pun intended!)

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

French people, particularly in Brittany, are very aware of Celtic culture and Scotsmen wearing kilts. I wouldn't worry about anyone mistaking you for being gay. And even if they do, what the hell, some of the nicest people I've met are gay.

I've seen it pretty frequently, but, the garments in question aren't actually kilts as you and I know them.

I dunno, mate. If you do the same search on the UK site, you will run into just as many of those listings. Tend to be rubber/latex/"gummi" things posing as kilts. "Gladiator" styles seem plentiful as are numerous "tartan posing pouches" (ahem...) Has nothing to do with France....

Actually, it's probably not the gay people he is concerned about... But as you say, the French are aware of Scotsmen wearing kilts.

I've noticed a few searches under 'kilt' on EbayUK have revealled an advert with the phrase 'gay interest' in them, but these always refer to non tartan 'kilts'. Yes it is disturbing.
The Kilt is my delight !

I am french and i don't know the kilt as a "gay" product but, years ago, Jean-Paul Gauthier wore a kilt so, it could be an explanation...
But, french people don't know very well subtilities about kilts. Lot of them think that kilt is a skirt for men..
For example, my wife don't like the idea i could wear a kilt... She likes Scotland, highlands, tartans and kilts, but, kilt, not on me !!!
Question of mind.

Well, there are a few GLBT or "gay" related tartans. They have no connections to the clan tartans etc. I only know of one that is being woven and made into kilts; that's the Bear tartan.
If you have and are wearing the Bear tartan, perhaps someone somewhere in the world might recognize it. Even that would not mean that you are or will be precieved as gay.
