The button closure on the right side is also typical of ladies' kilted skirts I have seen from Burnett's & Struth.

The pleats may also be the reverse of a man's kilt.
Right.
But, remember if relying on a picture on ebay, it could be reversed so direction of closure or pleats will be a secondary issue. And only of course, if they post a picture of the back - most don't.

True that. I was looking yesterday and found about 5 that were being sold merely as 'kilts', in actuality they were kilted skirts.

I'm with Mipi,
Depending on what you paid for it, and how its constructed, you might be better off hanging on to it for the fabric and using that beautiful Maple Leaf for something else.
I have an 11 ounce KILT and it works well summer or winter.
Course if the top is cut up to fit the waist probably won't work for a kilt.
Hopefully, the lesson wasn't too expensive or you will be able to get a refund.

The kilt is in the process of going back to the seller. Once she receives it, a full refund will be issued. She did not know the difference between mens' and womens' kilts. I didn't "know" the difference either, but suspected what they might be. Lesson learned, I don't plan on buying kilts on ebay again no matter how good the price unless I know all the pertinent information about them or feel confident the seller knows about kilts.

Best way to note the difference might be to note that it's women's skirts as opposed to men's kilts. That seems to be the way someone who is familiar with kilts will describe the garments.

The last word on this unfortunate situation...the item was sent back to the seller and my money was refunded today. Hopefully my situation will serve as a lesson to all to be careful when buying kilts on ebay since not all sellers are properly "educated".

That's too bad. Buyer beware, there's skirts out there amongst the kilt!
